In 2020, as you may recall, there were no car shows. But we so appreciate the city allowing us to do it.” “So everything is kind of sensitive, how to follow the guidelines of the health department and all that. “We are the first ones approved to have a car show at the Marina Green Park in Long Beach,” said Terry Yamaguchi, another director and key organizer of the show with husband Koji and the members of T.O.R.C. “It is very good to be back,” said Koji Yamaguchi, who is a director of the Toyota Owners and Restorer’s Club (T.O.R.C.) that puts on the show. It receives signals from the airbag sensors, judges whether or not the SRS must be activated, and diagnostic system malfunction.ĭTC 31 is recorded when occurrence of a malfunction in the airbag sensor assembly is detected. After a year of no car shows at all, the organizers of All Toyotafest, the 26-year-old celebration of all things Toyota, were just glad to be able to gather again, albeit within the limited confines of COVID regulations set down by the city of Long Beach, California, where the event was held. ![]() The airbag sensor assembly consists of a airbag sensor, safing sensor, drive circuit, diagnosis circuit and ignition control, etc. Refer to Diagnosis and Testing.ĭTC 31 - AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY MALFUNCTION If lamp remains lit, an SRS condition is indicated. ![]() Turn ignition to ACC or On position and ensure SRS lamp lights, then goes off after approximately 6 seconds. Wait at least 10 seconds before turning ignition from Lock position. Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnection before beginning service or diagnostic procedures. Turn ignition to Lock, then disconnect battery ground cable. Never use a backup power source from outside the vehicle. The Air Bag/Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) incorporates a backup energy source that maintains sufficient deployment voltage for up to 90 seconds after the ignition is turned Off and the battery has been disconnected.īefore disconnecting the battery, note radio station settings, since all vehicle memory will be lost. Before repairs, remove the airbag sensor if shocks are likely to be applied to the sensor during repairs.ĭo not expose the steering wheel pad, front passenger airbag assembly, airbag sensor assembly or front airbag sensor directly to hot air or flames. ![]() To avoid erasing the memory of each memory system, never use a backup power supply from outside the vehicle. When work is finished, reset the audio systems as before and adjust the clock. So before starting work, make a record of the contents memorized in the audio memory system. (The SRS is equipped with a back-up power source so that if work is started within 90 seconds of disconnecting the negative (-) terminal cable of the battery, the SRS may be deployed.) When the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery, the memory of the clock and audio system will be canceled. Work must be started 90 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the "LOCK" position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery. So before you start doing anything, make sure you read and look at everything posted here! Good luck. This information is quite extensive and may not be in the correct order. The following information is for troubleshooting the DTC 31 code for the airbag system of a 1996 Toyota Tercel. Is it possible that I'm contacting the wrong terminals? Thank you, Tommy.ġ996 Toyota Tercel airbag trouble code 31 I then followed your test procedure and nothing changed. The opposite end was plugged into the data link connetor. After they were identified, I then placed two small finishing nails at the end of the harness at the chosen termimals on that end, where I then hooked up two jumper wires. I removed the harness from my scanner and I ran a continuity test to identify the terminals at both ends of the harness. Perhaps I'm looking at the diagram wrong and I'm using the wrong terminals. The two red arrows are the terminals I have tried using with no results. The locking tab in the picture is on the left side identified by the yellow arrow. The picture I provided here is the actual data link connector from my 1996 Toyota Tercel. Based on the diagram you have posted, I'm using the locking tab at the bottom of the data link connector in the diagram as a guide. Not sure if I'm contacting the right terminals inside the Data Link Connector. ![]()
